Flexigauge green, measure range 0.025mm-0.076mm

Instructions for use

1) Remove the bearing hood us bonnet, then carefully wipe the kingpin and bearing shell to remove all traces of oil.

2) Then seat a piece of Flexigauge on the bearing at the crown.

3) Replace the bearing hood us bonnet and tighten the bolts with a torque spanner to the recommended torque. Caution: do not rotate the shaft or bearings.

4) Then remove the bearing hood us bonnet: the Flexigauge will remain attached to either the bearing or the shaft.

5) Compare the width of the flattened gauge with the scale on the carcass. The number inside the scale indicates the clearance, in thousandths of an inch or millimetres, depending on which side of the carcass is used.

6) A taper is detected when the Flexigauge is wider at one end than the other, the difference between the readings indicating the amount of taper. The widest section of the gauge represents the area with the least clearance. If the Flexigauge is wider at the centre of the bearing, this indicates ‘churning’ of the shaft.
